LCD, standing for ‘liquid crystal device’ and DLP, which stands for ‘digital light processing’ are the two most common projector imaging technologies. With so many different brands and models available, it can be difficult for customers to make a decision between both technologies. The simple fact of the matter is that LCD projectors give better image quality and colour accuracy. The next part of this article tells you why DLP projectors struggle with reproducing the same standard of image quality.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s like a set of blinds in your room over your bedroom window. By a twist of a rod you can have the shutters open or closed, depending on whether you want to let light in or not. And that is exactly how an LCD projector functions. Each pixel functions like an individual shutter on a set of blinds to either pass light through or to block it. DLP on the other hand is created of millions of microscopic mirrors or ‘pixel elements’ as the professionals like to call them. Each pixel element operates to either reflect light or block it.</p>
<p>How the light source is processed from the point when the projector switches on to when the image reaches your screen is vitally significant in regard to image quality, brightness and colour accuracy. LCD projectors project white light from the lamp by separating it into red, blue and green components, by three mirrors which project the coloured light to 3 individual LCD panels. The 3 LCD panels form the elements of the image by switching each pixel on and off. The pixels are then combined in a glass prism to form the projector image. A significant point to understad about LCD projectors is that all three colours are sent onto your projector screen all at once. The way a DLP projector functions is very different and even the final product of how an image comes out is not the same. With DLP, white light from the lamp is directed through a turning colour wheel with transparent red, blue and green segments, at speeds up to 11,000 rpm/s. This approach to making an image requires a sequence of red, blue and green light. The millions of micro mirrors mentioned above reflect the coloured light on the pixels to create the image elements. The elements of the image are cast in sequence on the screen, one colour at a time. The viewer&#8217;s eyes will then draw each coloured element of the image into the single total image. In LCD projectors, all colours are available all the time to deliver top brightness and spectacular colour accuracy. In DLP, just one colour is available at any given time, and so resulting in lower colour brightness and accuracy. Some DLP designers have added a white segment into the colour wheel to improve all over brightness, but this then detracts from colour accuracy.</p>
<p>I read in forums all the time that DLP gives a higher contrast ratio and as such must be better. For those unaware, the contrast ratio is a measure of a display system defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest white to that of the darkest black that the system is capable of producing. DLP projectors do offer high contrast specifications compared to the majority of LCD projectors. At a glance, this appears to be a benefit, however, in real life, the true black level is determined by the ambient light in the room when the projector is utilised. Do not be duped by contrast specifications on websites and in brochures.</p>
<p>When the content you wish to see requires moving images, DLP projection technology also has image marks, or ‘artifacts’. The most typical artifact that a DLP projector creates with moving images is colour break up. Colour break up is incontrovertible in DLP systems because moving images change between the time red, blue and green colours are pulled up. LCD projectors do not have this problem because the colours are projected at the same time. DLP designers have formed 3DLP solutions using 3 chips to resolve the colour break up issue, but the cost of these projectors make them impractical for the large part of businesses and consumers.</p>
<p>Another difference between LCD and DLP is how they compensate for the refractive qualities of light. Remember back to high school science, and they taught you how the different colours of light refract varied amounts when shone through the same lens. The downfall with DLP projectors is that they have the one same panel for the same lens to project Red, Blue and Green. All 3 colours are different and refract light differently. Often with a DLP projector, some yellow colour will show above and an extra blue will come through below an image containing something as simple as a straight black line. In manufacturing LCD projectors can be set to minimize these effects on the projected image, because each colour is refracted on its own LCD panels.</p>
<p>The one actual buy point (excluding price) with deciding on a DLP projector is its overall smaller size and weight. However, this is only relevant with regard to portability and must be traded off against the image plusses of LCD projectors. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As the Dutch found dominance in sea power during the 17th century, the early yacht was a pleasure craft used first by royalty and then by the burghers in the canals and the protected and unprotected waters of the Low Countries. Racing yachts was incidental, coming out of private matches. English yachting started with King Charles II of England during his exile in the Low Countries. On his return to the English royalty in 1660, the city of Amsterdam sent him a 20-metre (66-foot) pleasure boat with a beam (maximum width) of 5.6 m (18 feet), which he named Mary. Charles and his brother James, the duke of York (James II, ruled 1685–88), built additional yachts and in 1662 raced two of them from the Thames, from Greenwich, to Gravesend, and back, on a Â£100 bet. Yachting was found to be popular with the wealthy and royalty, but after that point the trend did not last.</p>
<p>The first yacht group in the British Isles, the Water Club, was started in about 1720 at Cork, Ire., as a cruising and unofficial coast guard organization, and had much naval panoply and rigour. The closest thing to a race was the “chase,” in which the “fleet” pursued an imagined enemy. The club endured, for the large part as a social club, until 1765, and in 1828, when merging with other organisations, it became known as the Cork Yacht Club (later the Royal Cork Yacht Club).</p>
<p>Yacht racing was seen in some stipulated manner on the Thames in the mid-18th century. The duke of Cumberland instigated the Cumberland Fleet for Thames racing in 1775. When George IV rose to monarchy in 1820, it was then named the Fleet to His Majesty&#8217;s Coronation Sailing Society. The Thames Yacht Club seceded after a racing dispute, to become the Royal Thames Yacht Club in 1830. The first English yacht group had been formed at Cowes on the Isle of Wight in 1815, and royal patronage made the Solent - the strait between the mainland and the Isle of Wight - the perpetual setting of British racing. The club at Cowes became the Royal Yachting Club, again at the rise of George IV. All members were required to have boats of at least 20 tons (20,321 kg). Sailing races for large stakes were held, and the social life was superlative. Ultimately Royal Yachting Club boats increased in size to more than 350 tons.</p>
<p>In North America, yachting began with the Dutch in New York in the 17th century and went on when the English held dominance. Sailing was mostly for pleasure and reached its epitome in George Crowinshield&#8217;s Cleopatra&#8217;s Barge (1815), which cruised on the Mediterranean Sea and established a minimum of luxury and sophistication for the later yachts in the area from the late 19th century. The first persisting American yacht group, the Detroit Boat Club, was instigated in 1839. In 1844, John C. Stevens instigated the New York Yacht Club aboard his schooner Gimcrack.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of sailboats<br /></strong>The Early sailing yachts followed the lines of such naval craft as brigantines, schooners, and cutters from the 17th century through to the second half of the 19th century. The craft of bigger yachts was initially largely impacted by the victory of America, which was drawn by George Steers for a club led by John C. Stevens, and it was the boat for which the America&#8217;s Cup (q.v.) had its namesake after its win at Cowes in 1851. Early yachts were not designed and crafted in today&#8217;s sense, with just a model used. Not until the later half of the 19th century did what was known as naval architecture come about. Not until the 1920s did the use of the research of aerodynamics do for the craft of sails and rigging what science had already done for hulls.</p>
<p>Because almost all sailboats had to be individually built, there was a requirement for handicapping boats as this was before the one-design class boats were built. Hence, a rating rule was written, which is found in the International Rule, adopted in 1906 and amended in 1919. Today, one of the fastest blossoming areas in the sailing industry is that of one-design class boats. All boats in a one-design class are manufactured to single specifications in length, beam, sail area, and other aspects (for an example of a two-person sailboat, see illustration). Racing for such boats can be held on an even par with no handicapping required. A perfect example is the uniform International America&#8217;s Cup Class taken on for yachts in the 1992 America&#8217;s Cup race.</p>
<p>So long as yachting belonged primarily for the aristocracy and the rich, money was no issue, and the size of boats increased, in both length and weight. The promotion and desire of smaller boats came in the later half of the 19th century in the sailing of the Englishmen R.T. McMullen, a stockbroker, and E.F. Knight, a barrister and journalist. A trip around the world (1895–98) captained single-handedly by the naturalized American captain Joshua Slocum in the 11.3-metre Spray demonstrated the hardiness of smaller craft. Following this in the 20th century, for the larger part after World War II, smaller racing and recreational craft became more popular, down to the dinghy, a favoured training boat, of 3.7 m. In the late 20th century, yachts of less than 3 m were traveled in single-handedly across the Atlantic Ocean.</p>
<p><strong>Kinds of power yachts<br /></strong>Following the decade 1840–50, when steam began to emulate sail power in public vessels, the steam engine, and later the internal-combustion engine, were employed increasingly in pleasure yachts. Large power yachts were furthered to a high element, and long-distance sailing became a favoured activity of the rich. The earliest power yachts were paddle-wheel boats; those then made way to boats powered by the wholly submerged screw or propeller type of propulsion. As well as naval and merchant yachts, auxiliaries carrying both sail and power were the yacht archetype for several years. By the second half of the 20th century, many yachts were still auxiliaries, but the majority were solely power yachts that had gasoline or diesel engines.</p>
<p>In the last decade of the 19th century there was a push in the design of bigger steam yachts. Conspicuous within these was the Mayflower (1897) of 2,690 tons, that had triple-expansion engines, twin screws, and a compartmented iron hull, and was manned by a crew of over 150. The Mayflower, purchased by the United States Navy in 1898, was the official yacht of the president of the United States until 1929 and was used in active service in World War II.</p>
<p>As larger and better quality internal-combustion engines were produced, many bigger craft were using them for power. The establishment of the diesel engine, with heavy oil for fuel, advanced from World War I. From the decade after that, big power-yacht creation blossomed, climaxing in the Orion (1930) at 3,097 tons. In that period the largest auxiliary yacht constructed was the four-masted, steel, barque-rigged Sea Cloud (1931) of 2,323 tons.</p>
<p>The construction of large power craft lessened in 1932, and the trend after that was toward smaller, less costly yachts. From World War II, many small naval vessels were bought by private owners for conversion to yachts. In the late 20th century, yachting has become a widespread loved competition enjoyed by thousands of yachtsmen individually manning and maintaining their own small pleasure craft. The popularity of boats and sailors has increased steadily, not only in the traditional places along the seacoasts but also on inland waterways and lakes.</p>

A proportional tax is a kind that places the same relative burden on all taxpayers—i.e., when tax liability and income move in the same scale. A progressive tax is characterized by a greater than proportional rise in the tax liability in regard to the growth in income, and a regressive tax is characterized by a less than proportional increase in the related burden. Therefore, progressive taxes are regarded as fighting inequity in income distribution, whereas regressive taxes may result in an increase these inequalities.</p>
<p>The taxes that are generally thought to be progressive include individual income taxes and estate taxes. Income taxes that are initially progressive, however, could become less so for the upper-income group—particularly if a taxpayer is permitted to reduce his tax base by declaring deductions or by leaving out certain income elements from his taxable income. Proportional tax rates if applied to lower-income demographics would also be more progressive if personal exemptions are made.</p>
<p>Income measured over the course of a given year does not definitely offer the most accurate measure of taxpaying ability. For example, transitory rises in income may be saved, and in temporary declines in income a taxpayer may elect to finance consumption by taking from savings. Ergo, if taxation is regarded along with “permanent income,” it will be less regressive (or more progressive) than if it is compared with annual income.</p>
<p>Sales taxes and excises (with the exception of luxuries) tend to be regressive, because the portion of individual income consumed or spent for specific goods declines as the level of personal income rises. Poll taxes (also called head taxes), levied as a flat amount per capita, obviously are regressive.</p>
<p>It is not simple to classify corporate income taxes and taxes on business as progressive, regressive, or proportionate, due to the uncertainty about the ability of businesses to shift their tax expenses (see below Shifting and incidence). This difficulty of determining who bears the tax burden is dependant fundamentally on whether a national or a subnational (that is, provincial or state) tax is being decided.</p>
<p>In assessing the economic effect of taxation, it is necessary to distinguish between varied concepts of tax rates. The statutory rates will be dictated in the law; generally speaking these are marginal rates, but for some cases they are average rates. Marginal income tax rates denote the fraction of incremental income taken by taxation when income grows by one dollar. Therefore, if tax burden increases by 45 cents when income rises by one dollar, the marginal tax rate is 45 percent. Income tax legislature often contain graduated marginal rates—i.e., rates that grow as income grows. Structured analysis of marginal tax rates must consider provisions in addition to the formal statutory rate structure. If, for example, a particular tax credit (reduction in tax) falls by 20 cents for each one-dollar increase in income, the marginal rate is 20 percentage points higher than nominated by the statutory rates.
